Councillor Blasts 'Sub-Standard' Amenities

Lisburn council is being forced to pick up the tab for sub-standard recreational amenities in housing developments, a city councillor has claimed.

The SDLP's Brian Heading cited the a playground on the Mount Eagles estate in Lagmore, which he described as "poor quality".

Mr Heading said this has made it vulnerable to vandalism.


"It is totally inadequate for the population of the area. It had to be taken over by the council and now it is coming before the Leisure Services committee to see if we can find the means to improve it."

Councillor Heading said this should not be happening.

"The contractors who built the estate have left us a playground which is not fit for purpose and the poor ratepayer is being left to pick up the bill.

"It is high time housing development contracts had enforceable performance clauses covering recreational amenities so that sub-standard ones don’t get dumped on the ratepayers."
