Portstewart Crescent Is £1m European First

Details have been announced for the officially unveiling of a massive £1m regeneration project in Portstewart.

The Crescent development was designed to entertain children and adults alike, featuring a beautiful fountain and musical jets.

Guests have been invited to experience the completed facility for the first time on 21 August.

Backed by Coleraine Borough Council, the newly refurbished design is similar to the Epcott Centre in Florida, where Disney focuses and caters for the entertainment of children.

A first of its kind in Europe, Alex Carmichael, Acting Director of Leisure Services, said: "This project shows an investment by council in excess of £1million, primarily upgrading the facility at the Crescent Portstewart, but making it more attractive for both residents and tourists to enjoy the coastline with their young families."

At showtimes, as the fountains all follow the flow of music and lights at the time, children must not go into the fountains, but can sit by and enjoy the magical experiences of the event.

It is the focal point on arrival and can be seen from main street, as it is up to four metres in height, hosting multi coloured lights and a variety of tunes, one of each played per show.

A new sound system has also been installed to give the overall affect of water dancing with lights to the sound of the music.

All play equipment is similar to that which is located at the Epcott Centre Florida and will provide an outdoor fun facility for hundreds of children during the spring and summer months, to compliment the new facility, a newly designed café provides teas and refreshments, along the outdoor covered seating viewing area.
