Electrician Enquiry Heads Named

A two man panel has been appointed to oversee the State investigation into a pay dispute between the TEEU and employers in the Electrical Contracting Industry.

Trade Minister Mary Coughlan said Peter Cassells and Finbarr Flood would undertake an investigation, and to report to her as a matter of urgency, into the matters that gave rise to the industrial action.

The Minister is using her powers under Section 38(2) of the Industrial Relations Act 1990 to have the enquiry undertaken.


The issue of pay has already been dealt with by the Labour Court.

The enquiry will report of the adequacy of current negotiating and collective bargaining arrangements.

It will also look at the need, if any, for adaptation and change in collective agreements to meet the current and emerging needs of the sector.

Current systems of promoting adherence to established employment standards within the sector, will also be explored.

The enquiry will make recommendations it considers appropriate.

Minister Coughlan said: "Both Mr Cassells and Mr Flood have long and distinguished track records in the industrial relations area.

"I now call on all stakeholders in the electrical contracting sector to cooperate fully with their work in this investigation, the ultimate objective of which is to identify a way to restore the orderly conduct of relationships between all parties into the future."
