300 New 'Green' Jobs Unveiled

Bord na Móna has announced the creation of 300 new green jobs across Ireland.

The news comes on the back of the publication of strong financial figures for the past year.

New jobs will be created in green energy, resource recovery and environmental solutions using Bord na Móna’s green technologies.

Company turnover for the past year stood at €401.6m, up 8% on the previous year.

Trading figures have provided a platform for Bord na Móna to diversify its operations and to significantly grow the business, a spokesman said.

Bord na Móna is set to announce significant planned capital investments in a range of products and services that are beneficial to the environment, encompassing electricity, heating solutions, resource recovery, water, horticulture and related services.

Energy Minister Eamon Ryan lauded Bord na Móna for its new green direction.

"I congratulate Bord na Móna for the successful implementation of their strategy to develop an environmentally sustainable business. This direction shows us that by going green, we not only benefit the environment but we reap considerable economic benefits as well," he said.

"These jobs in areas such as resource recovery will reduce the volume of materials going to landfill and re-directing them for use in horticulture and energy."

Bord na Móna CEO, Gabriel D’Arcy, said: "Clearly we have set ourselves ambitious targets, but everyone within the organisation is committed to and focused on demonstrating how sustainability can be an engine for growth in Ireland. We are currently on track and excited about the future of the company."
