Fifty-four homes in Limavady are having kitchen refitted as part of a £262,000 scheme by the Housing Executive.
Work will be also be carried out in Dungiven, Feeny and Bonnanboigh to bring kitchens in tenants' homes up to modern standards.
Eddie Doherty, Housing Executive District Manager for Limavady, said the project was "good news" for the tenants.
"It underscores our commitment to improve housing conditions throughout the entire District. Investment in this type of work helps to make a difference to the lives of our tenants."
Electrical and plumbing installations are also being upgraded including wired smoke alarms and heat detectors.
The Housing Executive's Egan contractor, PK Murphy Construction Ltd, is installing the new kitchens and consulting with the tenants on the details of the scheme
Mary Avrill, from Bonnanboigh, is one of the first tenants to have her new kitchen revamped.
"I am really pleased, it looks really well and I have more cupboards and better storage space. It was great to be able to pick our own cupboards and worktop finishes. The contractor has been very helpful and has carried out the work very quickly," she said.
Seana Hippsley, Tenant Liaison Officer with PK Murphy, is impressed with the co-operation that she has received from the tenants in Limavady.
"The consultation process is going very well and the feedback from the tenants is very positive. The tenants have been very accommodating and already new kitchens have been installed in a number of homes," Ms Hippsley.
"We are planning on completing five kitchens each week and should have the scheme completed later in the summer."
