As part of its Playground Provision Scheme, the council has sought to ensure an equitable distribution of playground facilities throughout the county.
The Relic Road playground represents is the ninth facility to be provided under the scheme.

"While all of the playground facilities provided under the Scheme are for the children in our communities to enjoy, it is equally important that the local community takes ownership of their local playground, to ensure that it can remain a place where children can play in peace and safety," said a council spokeswoman.
Westmeath County Council wished the children of Kilbeggan "many years of playful happiness in the pleasant surroundings of the excellent facility" that has been provided at Relic Road.
