Wexford Development Shrouded In Mystery

The identity of a developer behind plans to build a new north Wexford retail park is shrouded in mystery.

Four county councillors from Gorey have said they do not know who was awarded permission to construct the leisure development, on the Courtown Road site.

Councillors Lorcan Allen, Jimmy Fleming, Michael Kinsella and Declan MacPartlin were only able to say Spinning Wheel Developments successfully submitted a planning application for the scheme.


The proposed developement at Raheenagurren East was first made public last September.

Mr Fleming said the local council backed the plans due to its jobs potential.

The Gorey Guardian newspaper has reported the application was filed by a firm with an address registered with an accountancy firm in Cork.

According to the Companies Registration Office, it was registered in 2004.

Gorey representatives have said they did not enter into any advanced consultation regarding the proposed project.

However, pre-planning talks were held with planners at Wexford County Council.

The site was reportedly previously owned by supermarket chain Tesco before being sold on.

According to planning files, no objections have been lodged against the new development.
