Constructing Excellence in Northern Ireland (CEni) has unveiled details of its Spring Modern Procurement Training Programme.

The announcement follows on from two previous programmes, which ran in Spring and Autumn 2008.

The eight module Programme will be delivered over a period of eight consecutive weeks between the 23 April and 11 June 2009.

The Programme is developed by CEni - a centre of excellence developed through partnership - which represents all sectors of the construction industry, and provides a unique bridge between suppliers, contracting organisations, clients, consultants, Government and the research community.

As with the previous programmes, the modules will be delivered by industry professionals with direct and contemporary experience in the procurement process drawn from across the UK and Ireland.

The training programmes will cover ISNI 2008 – 2018, NI Procurement & The Industry Perspective; Client Leadership & Collaborative Working; The Procurement Process NEC3 - Developing Mutual Trust & Understanding; The use of Modern Procurement to deliver Business Objectives & Benefits; Sustainability in Construction Procurement; Achieving Excellence in Construction; and The Economic Appraisal Process and Whole Life Cost in Procurement.

Garrett Harty, CEni Development Officer and Programme Co-ordinator said: "Last year's programmes were a great success and have set a high benchmark for us to aim at in the future.

"Importantly, we have used both qualitative and quantitative feedback received from delegates to improve the format and content of the 2009 Spring programme," he added.

The programme is aimed at all professionals involved in the procurement process including Clients, Contractors and Consultants, Project Managers, Contract Managers, Architects, Engineers and Quantity Surveyors.

The programme is limited to 25 spaces and is intended for both private and public sector bodies.

As with the previous programmes, to accommodate larger organisations the opportunity exists to assign individuals to attend particular modules, thus allowing a narrowed focus depending on their core professional interests within construction procurement.

CEni's Development Manager, Colin Smyth, is very positive about the entire area under focus.

"Based on the success of the programme and the obvious industry interest, CEni in the process of looking at the feasibility of the establishment of an embedded CEni Centre of Procurement Excellence, based at the University of Ulster Jordanstown campus," said Mr Smyth.
