Carvill Scheme Picks Up Top Eco Award

A Lisburn housing scheme has been lauded for its "ground-breaking" environmental merits.

Woodbrook in Brokerstown was recognised for its environmentally friendly design.

The prize was awarded by the RSPB/RTPI under the Urban Areas and Built Development category.

The developer behind the scheme was the Carvill Group, who said it works hard to create innovative and sustainable housing.

Christopher Carvill said: "To be recognised for this work is very rewarding, and we aim to further develop our ideas in the future to maintain and progress our thinking."


Sponsors of the award, Action Renewables praised the developer's work.

Acting Director Terry Waugh said: "It's ground breaking what the Carvill Group has achieved through their innovation and forward thinking design to create an eco-village in a prime location encompassing renewables and energy efficiencies."

RSPB Director Aidan Lonergan added: "From its consideration of a community life centred around a village green, to the energy saving steps taken to ensure that carbon emissions are reduced, to the use of biomass as a source of renewable fuel, Woodbrook has demonstrated the very best in environmental design."
