Bray Agrees 65 Metre Restriction On New Homes

Construction News Image
A draft area plan for the Bray region is to go on public display, after the County Manager's report was approved.

Amendments to the draft proposals were made at last week's County Council meeting, with great emphasis placed on the Kilruddery Action Area Plan.

This focus was welcomed by local councillor John Byrne, who said the Kilruddery Estate has the potential to become a top tourist attraction.

"It would be a massive boost for both the county and Bray. There would be plenty of spin-offs for the local community. Plenty of jobs would also be created," he said.

Concerns were raised over the height of some housing schemes detailed in the plans.

While new builds would be confined to a contour of no more than 65 metres, councillor Pat Vance described the actions as "the worst type of planning I have come across in all my time in the council".

Mr Vance claimed "mistakes" has been made in the past, which cause a number of houses in the area to be built "too high".

The councillor insisted he was rarely opposed to developments, however, he said he could not support the plan unless the residential element was removed.

Councillor Anne Ferris agreed that some Deepdale home were too high.

She said she was confident the new restrictions would ensure the same mistakes were not made again.
