£27k Underground Broadband For Cookstown

A £29,000 contract has been agreed to establish a broadband access network in Cookstown, the Communications Minister has confirmed.

The work will be undertaken by Derry firm North West Electronics using the latest fibre-optic technology.

Minister Arlene Foster said the scheme would ensure high-speed wireless broadband for Kilcronagh Business Park

"The development of the fibre-optic ring, which uses existing underground channels within the business park, is an extremely cost effective way of delivering high speed broadband services in the Cookstown area," she said.


"This project also aims to provide a stimulus for commercial investment in the region, with the potential to meet future demand for higher broadband widths."

The Minster called on the local council to promote the area as a place with optimum telecommunication options.

"It is now important for all stakeholders, including the council, to actively promote the area as one which offers a range of telecommunications options to address business needs.

"It is also critical that demand for the new services is maximised to demonstrate to telecoms providers that there are business opportunities in the area to be exploited," she added.
