South Dublin-based Killinarden Park has officially opened following improvement works.
Nicholas de Jong Associates carried out the planning and design work on the project with Clonmel Enterprises Ltd civil contractors realising the vision on the ground.
Enhancements to the park include provision of a lit walking and cycling route and other new accessible routes though the area.
New play spaces, exercise areas, a skate ramp and a multi-use games area have been provided and a major upgrade of the existing grass pitches has also been undertaken.
New improved entrances with associated signage now welcome visitors and there has been extensive tree and shrub planting throughout the park.
Works began on the site 12 months ago and to mark the completion of the project, Mayor of South Dublin County Council, Cllr Baby Pereppadan, officially opened the newly improved park.
The Mayor was joined by local councillors, Mr Colm Ward, Chief Executive, Ms Teresa Walsh, Director of Services, and staff of South Dublin County Council.
Children from The Sacred Heart National School, members of the Croí Ró Naofa GAA Club and Sacred Heart Football Club and members of the local community were also in attendance to celebrate this event.
Speaking at the event, Mayor Cllr Baby Pereppadan, said: "I would like to acknowledge and thank the community for all their assistance and input during the preliminary design stage and their support for the project during construction.
"It is a joy to see the park so well used and I look forward to seeing it providing amenity, recreation and environmental benefits to the community of Killinarden for many years to come."
The project was funded by South Dublin County Council's three-year capital budget and supported by the National Transport Authority via Active Travel Grants and the Department of Sport via Sports Capital Grants.
