Rail Facilities Upgrade For Ballymena

Rail passenger services in Ballymena have been upgraded as part of a £17m investment programme by Translink.

Improvements were made to make the local station more accessible, attractive and easy to use, according to the transport provider.

NI Railways has put in place a broader investment programme to upgrade stations and halts across the network, in compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA).


Completed work at the station includes the construction of two passenger lifts; 'tactile' paving and resurfacing; new lighting; paintwork; and a newly refurbished booking office.

Additional refurbishment work will now be carried out at Ballymena Railway Station as part of NI Railways ongoing upgrade programme including subway re-clading; refurbishment in the main concourse waiting area; and extension of the station park and ride facility.

NI Railways Route Manager, Frank Moore, said the improvements would benefit all passengers, particularly those with mobility difficulties.

"I would like to thank all our passengers for their patience during this work so far and hope all these enhancements will persuade even more people to travel with us as well as provide our staff with an improved working environment," he said.
