Mayor Hails Derry Station Upgrade Work

A major overhaul of services at Londonderry Rail Station has been completed.

Translink said it hopes the improvements will make local rail travel even more attractive, easy to use and hassle free.

The investment in Derry forms part of an overall £17m upgrade scheme undertaken by the transport provider.

An assortment of local representatives were on hand at the official unveiling of the city's refurbished station.

Derry Mayor Gerard Diver was given a special tour of the enhanced facilities, which include a newly refurbished waiting area, ticket office and toilets, with the addition of disabled facilities; new platform barriers; automated doors; and platform resurfacing, as well as improvements to lighting and signage.


The Mayor said: "I am delighted that NI Railways has completed this important station upgrade project which offers local and visiting passengers improved access, safety, security and comfort."

Londonderry Line Route Manager, Frank Moore, said: "These improvements will benefit all our passengers and in particular those with mobility difficulties. I would like to thank all our passengers for their patience during this work.

"I am also very pleased that local representatives are taking time to recognise the effort being made to provide better services for our customers and improve transport facilities within the local community."
