A+ Environment Rating For Award Winning RoofBLOCK

Construction News Image
A top County Down block plant has received its Certified Environmental Profile results from the world renown Building Research Establishment Global.

Newtownards-based RoofBLOCK, which produces award winning masonry roof overhang, achieved the highest environmental accreditation, making it one of Europe's most modern block manufacturers.

The ratings, calculated to the 2008 BRE methodology, reached an A+ rating for construction and been awarded certificate number ENP 378 'Certificate of Approval Environmental Profiles'.

The A+, A, B, C, D and E ranking system used by the BRE, where A+ equals best environmental performance / least environmental impact, assesses building materials and components across their entire life cycle - extraction, processing, use, maintenance and disposal.

Also, the new masonry factory, with its recently installed state-of-the-art computer controlled machinery and exothermic curing chamber, has helped it to reduce its carbon emissions as measured by the Carbon Trust by 44.5%

A spokesman for the firm said: "RoofBLOCK is fully committed to providing a sustainable environment by using recycled materials in its quality-controlled production to provide a product with long-term durability and low maintenance in use."

Made from secondary aggregates with ECO cement, RoofBLOCK has by a considerable margin a much lower life-cycle carbon footprint than even timber.

A masonry roof overhang will help ensure our buildings will last for their full design-life without further expense as well meeting clients, architects and contractors responsibilities under the new Heath & Safety CDM Regulations of reducing hazards at the earliest stages of design and planning.
