Murphy Welcomes Completion Of Six Road Ends Roundabout

Road Minister Conor Murphy has provided an up-date on a £2.5m improvement scheme in the North Down area.

Mr Murphy welcomed the completion of a new £2m roundabout at Six Road Ends, which was marked by the approval of legislation and signage erection.

This measure introduced a mandatory 40mph speed limit on all approach roads to the roundabout.

Safety campaigners had raised concerns about the multiple junction for many years. The new roundabout links Newtownards, Bangor, Donaghadee and Carrowdore.


"Other schemes which have been completed this financial year include a collision remedial scheme on the A2 at the Old Belfast Road junction; cycle lane provision along Abbey Street, traffic calming at Dunhirk Drive, Churchill Park/Crescent and Silverstream Crescent/Park/Gardens plus carriageway resurfacing at Alfred Street, Sherwood Road/Park/Gardens and Castle Park Road/Avenue," the Minister said.

Road Service's Divisional Roads Manager Tom McCourt welcomed the continued investment in local transport and safety measures in the North Down Borough Council area.

These include traffic calming schemes, measures to assist cyclists and pedestrians and a programme of school travel and safety projects.
