Moira Building Firm Expansion 'Symbol of Confidence', Says Foster

Business Minister Arlene Foster has lauded the growth of a Moira-based building firm as a 'symbol of confidence' in the skills and talents available in Northern Ireland.

Ms Foster was speaking as she officially opened a new extension at the international headquarters of McMullen Architectural.

The company specialises in the construction, manufacturing and installation of high quality windows and curtain walling, and forms part of the multinational McMullen Group, which has subsidiary companies in Scotland and the USA.

McMullan also operates in Great Britain, Republic of Ireland and across Europe.

McMullen has managed to double turnover to more than £50 million by securing high profile and large scale contracts, including redevelopment projects at Highbury Stadium in London and 545 Madison Avenue in New York.

Minister Foster said the firm continues to prosper, amid global economic challenges, because of "its commitment to innovation and developing international market opportunities".

"These attributes, along with its tradition of quality workmanship and strong customer focus, have helped McMullen become a leading name in the supply of window and curtain wall products right across the world," she said.

In recent years the company acquired Systems Aluminium in Scotland and established a US subsidiary, McMullen Inc.

Ms Foster added: "The expansion of McMullen's headquarters in Moira is both a symbol of its international success and its strong confidence in the talent and skills available in Northern Ireland."

Managing Director Ted McMullen said: "We have had to look to markets beyond Northern Ireland for opportunities to build our reputation and, crucially, our turnover.

"This success has given us both the confidence and the means to invest in our new expanded head office, which will further add to the company’s overall capability and complement our significant global reach.

"We are now well positioned to continue growth towards our turnover target of £70 million within the next two years," he added.
