€4.3m Dublin Schemes Opened

Three major Dublin redevelopment projects, valued at around €4.3m, have been officially opened in the north of the city.

The re-development and modification of Donnycarney Park, known locally as May Park, was undertaken to facilitate the build of new state of the art senior citizen accommodation - called Clanmaurice Court.

The project also involved the development of a Multi-Use Games Area, which includes a childrens playground, playing pitches and changing facilities for football clubs at Donnycarney Park.

Speaking at the launch, the city's Lord Mayor Eibhlin Byrne said: "There is no more important mark of a community than the commitment it shows to its older people and the care given to its young.

"With its redevelopment May Park provides quality housing in the heart of community activity.

By drawing our young and our old citizens together in quality surroundings Dublin City Council have done much for social cohesion."

The new Senior Citizen accommodation at Clanmaurice Court consists of 24 bungalow style units - designed by Dublin City Council - that are part of a long-term redevelopment and replacement strategy throughout the city.

This strategy is focused on the upgrading of existing complexes that have bed-sit type accommodation, with new units that include one or two bedrooms.

The Multi-Use Games Area and the playground within the park, which are separated from Clanmaurice Court by a small entrance road, have helped the park to reach its full potential and have proved a big hit with the local children and residents.
