And according to biking sources, this will be the fastest solo RTW trip by an Irish person through the 5 continents involved.
On 10 October 2008, Pat Cahill is setting off from Dublin on his Suzuki DL650 VStrom motorbike on a solo Round the World trip of some 32,000km in an effort to raise money for the LauraLynn Children's Hospice Foundation.
The LauraLynn Children’s Hospice Foundation is a registered charity that was founded in 2001.

Its primary aim is to build the first Children's Hospice in the Republic of Ireland.
Pat Cahill, from Corrandulla Co Galway is a pilot with Aer Lingus and he is taking five months unpaid leave to attempt this trip. All expenses relating to this trip will be incurred by Pat himself personally.
Ireland's first Children’s Hospice, called Laura Lynn House, will be able to support over 300 families across Ireland a year.
The Laura Lynn House Paediatric Palliative Care unit will provide eight bedrooms along with living facilities as well as four family apartments, to enable relatives to be close to their children.
These units will be an essential component of the Palliative Care Programme so desperately needed. A further three units, each with eight bedrooms and living accommodation, will be built at Leopardstown to provide more Respite Care and Residential Care.
The 'Round the World Motorbike Challenge' departs from Dublin and involves Pat getting across Europe as quickly as possible and continues on across the North of Turkey so as to be able to cross the mountains into Iran before the snow falls in early November.
The charity biker will continue on route, making stops in Dubai, Nepal, Bangkok, Singapore, Bali, Australia, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and American.
