Derry Housing Boost Likely

Around 25 apartments could soon boost the local property market in Londonderry if planning permission is granted.

Plans for the apartment block - to be located at Duncreggan Road - were received by Derry City Council last week, referring to a site at the corner of Meadowbank Avenue and Duncreggan Road, includes four currently vacant three-storey houses.

The new plans include demolishing the houses and replacing them with a block of two-bedroom apartments complete with basement parking.


The Derry Journal has reported that local architects firm, Sean McLaughlin, outlined the plans in an application sent to the DoE Planning Service.

A statement by the firm, attached to the planning application, said: "This is an opportunity to promote urban regeneration and contribute to the vitality of the area as this large site lends itself to a greater density of development.

"This is an imaginative and inventive project respecting local character, tradition and human scale while achieving modern sustainable living standard within 21st century contemporary setting which incorporates systems to reduce the carbon footprint of the scheme as a whole."
