Galway Bus Terminal Fills 'Jigsaw Problem'

A new bus terminal development in Galway city has been described as a "necessary piece in the whole transportation jigsaw problem".

Due to open in the Fairgreen, the terminal is expected to hold 13 individual bus bays to service the private bus market.

It is hoped that all private bus operators will eventually operate out of the new station.

The station will also house business units for Web Works, an IDA led IT centre.

Galway councillor, and chair of the city’s Transportation Committee, Michael Crowe, has welcomed the development and said it will be "a small but very necessary piece in the whole transportation jigsaw problem".


Developed through public-private partnership, the station is nearing completion and expected to open almost two months earlier than planned.

Councillor Crowe said: "The bus centre will be of significant importance for the continued development of public transport in our city."

"At the moment private buses are scattered throughout the city, but the plan is that in time all of the private bus operators will operate out of here."

According to Mr Crowe he had pushed for the completion of the project, after taking the Transportation Committee chair. He is now proposing the council allows a taxi rank outside the terminal.

"It is my belief that this was a small but very necessary piece in the whole transportation jigsaw problem," added Mr Crowe.
