Recycling Centre 'Will Be Increased By A Third'

People using New Line Recycling Centre in Lurgan are reminded that construction work of the centre - which will be increased in size by a third - starts this week.

The £857,000 investment will result in much more room at the Craigavon Borough Council run site with compactor skips holding much more waste.

Although Stage 1 of the works is developing a new area to the back of the current site, there will be large construction vehicles on the access road so people are asked to use caution around the centre.

Chairman of Environmental Services Committee, Councillor Michael Tallon said: "Please take care when coming into the site as there will be large construction vehicles using the access road.

"There may be times when the queues may be longer than normal, but the end result will be worth it with a state of the art recycling."

At present Craigavon's recycling rate stands at 37% - well on track to achieving the required 40% by 2010. The recycling centres can take garden waste, oil, fridges, freezers, cookers, TV and computer monitors, mobile phones, car and household batteries and small electrical appliances, general rubbish, glass, cardboard, paper, plastic, tins and cans and metal .

The opening hours for the recycling centres in both Portadown and Lurgan are throughout the summer Monday to Friday 8.00am - 8.00pm with the gates closing 15 minutes beforehand.
