Family Speak Of Heartache After Bushmills Builder Killed

The family of a workman killed in a tragic dumper-truck crash, at a County Antrim building site on Friday, have spoken for the first time about their heartache.

Colin Glass's brother-in-law revealed that this is the second fatal accident to happen within the family circle in only five years.

The 53-year-old father-of-three, from Dervock, died inside a works vehicle, at Priestland Road in Bushmills, when it fell down a steep incline at a construction site.

Jackie Morrison, the victim's brother-in-law, speaking to the Belfast Telegraph, said: "This is the second tragic accident. Colin's stepson Alvin was in his late teens when he was killed in a car accident five years ago. He was a passenger in a vehicle that crashed on a road between Dunseverick and Ballycastle."

Speaking about Mr Glass's immediate family, his brother-in-law said: "Colin's wife Doreen and their daughters are very emotional and very mixed up. They are coping OK but I think it will hit them when they bring the body home."

A post mortem was carried out on Mr Glass yesterday, but according to Mr Morrison details surrounding the accident still remain vague.

Mr Morrison, a skilled labourer like Mr Glass, told the Belfast Telegraph he was working on another building site on Friday when he received a call from his sister-in-law.

He said the local community was stunned by the news.

Mr Glass had been an employee of Drumdollagh Construction Company for almost five years.

Company director Sean Christie said the contractors would be working closely with the Health and Safety Executive to establish exactly how the accident happened.

North coast developer Seymour Sweeney, who owns the site, visited the scene a short time after the accident and expressed his sympathies for the family.
