Major Road Widening Scheme Commences

A major road widening and re-surfacing scheme will commence this month on the A26 Frosses Road approximately two miles south-east of Ballymoney, Co Antrim at a cost of £250,000.

While the road scheme is taking place, NI Water will lay a new watermain on the adjacent section of Frosses Road near Glenlough.

The roadworks will last for eight weeks from 20 May to 10 July 2008 and will involve a partial closure of the Frosses Road for the duration.

From Tuesday 20 May the road will be closed to Ballymena bound traffic (southbound), while northbound traffic towards Coleraine may continue to use Frosses Road.

Frosses Road southbound traffic will be diverted at the Kilraghts Road roundabout via the B16 Kilraghts Road and A44 Drones Road to rejoin A26 near Clogh Mills.

A 40-mph temporary speed limit will apply to the section through the works.

Advance notice of road closures has been published in the local press and will be advertised on radio stations. Details are on the Roads Service website link to external website. Additionally variable message signing will be used as necessary throughout the period of the contract to give information to drivers.

Roads Service regrets the inconvenience these necessary works will cause to the travelling public and local businesses. Co-ordination of the works has been planned to minimise traffic disruption and the lane closure is required to ensure the safety of motorists and road workers.

Drivers are asked to be patient, observe the diversion signs and speed restrictions and take extra care on the diversion routes.
