Settlement Reached In Kenny Land Case

A settlement has finally been reached in the long dispute between RTÉ broadcaster Pat Kenny and his neighbour, solicitor Gerard Charlton.

A High Court was told this morning that settlement over the 0.2 acre strip of land in Dalkey was reached following more than 10 hours of negotiation on Sunday.

Last weekend both sides agreed to an appeal by High Court Judge Maureen Clark to go to mediation over ownership of the land.


Following these mediations, the Charlton family said that Mr and Mrs Kenny have now agreed to purchase Gorse Hill and they are satisfied with this outcome. The family said they owed a debt of gratitude to their legal team.

The Charltons described the case as 'debilitating and traumatic'.

A legal representative for Mr Kenny told the High Court that the Kenny family was deeply grateful to Ms Justice Maureen Clarke and to mediator Rory Brady.

Mr Brady told the High Court he was satisfied both parties believed they had legal right on their side.

The case had been expected to last about four weeks before the announcement of settlement, and Judge Clark made her dramatic intervention on the third day of the case on Friday.
