Jobs Losses In Pipeline

Balbriggin company Wavin, one of Europe's leading makers of plastic pipes for sewers, has said over 50 jobs will be lost due to the decline in the construction industry.

In a statement, the company said the decision to cut its operations in Ireland was a direct result of the decline of the Irish construction market.


Wavin currently employs 198 people in Ireland and the announcement suggests over 25% of them will lose their jobs.

The company employs approximately 7,000 people in 28 countries and its headquarters are based in the Netherlands.

At the beginning of March, Wavin announced sales in the second half of the year in Britain and Ireland fell 3.4% to €216 million.
