Powerscreen, the Dungannon world leader in the field of screening equipment for the quarrying industry recently hosted their world dealer conference with sister company Terex Pegson, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Over three hundred dealers and customers travelled from across the globe to attend this prestigious three day event. Social activities and the conference were hosted in the Grand Hyatt, Dubai while the business of demonstrating the 18 enormous machines in the Powerscreen portfolio was played out in the Stevin Rock Quarry at Ras Al Khaimah, sixty miles northeast of Dubai.
Nicola Killen, Marketing Manager for Powerscreen explains why the company chose this venue: "With only three years trading in the UAE, our turnover has more than tripled in the last year. This is one of the most exciting construction venues in the world and with a long term commitment to the UAE market we see this as a stepping stone to the whole Middle East for our business. Stevin Rock is a customer of Genavco, our UAE dealer.
"This mountainous hard rock quarry operates twenty- three hours a day producing 20,000 tones of rock per day for the vast infrastructure projects in Dubai such as the Palms and World Islands. During our recee visit in the summer, temperatures were in the mid forties. Now in wintertime, the mid twenties made for a more pleasant climate."
Finally, when asked about the logistics of running a three day conference nearly 5,000 miles from home Nicola had this to say: "No event on a global scale takes place without hard work, planning and a good team, but we did have one big advantage in that producing and exporting machines which weigh up to 40 tons and can span over 10 feet is our business. Thirty-five machines head out down the M1 every week to the docks for exporting, so that part went without a hitch."
