The Awards for excellence in structural engineering design has opened for entries.
As the 40th anniversary of the Structural Awards, this years presentation stands to be one of the most hotly contested such awards throughout the construction industry.
Established in 1968, the Structural Awards are the world's leading awards for structural engineering excellence. There are 11 categories to enter, and structural engineers from around the world invited to submit their projects. The deadline for entries is Friday 11 April 2008 and the shortlist will be announced on Monday 4 August 2008.
In 2007, Buro Happold and Engineers Haskins Robinson Waters received the Supreme Award for Structural Engineering Excellence for their ground-breaking design of the Savill Building, Windsor Great Park (UK). The project initially won the Award for Arts, Leisure or Entertainment Structures, sponsored by Griffiths & Armour, for its innovative and unique structural design, which incorporates a floating timber roof. It was then selected from the individual category winners as being the most outstanding example of structural engineering for 2007.
Stephen Haskins of Engineers Haskins Robinson Waters Limited commented: "We were absolutely delighted to win the award in the Arts, Leisure or Entertainment Structures category, and truly elated by the Supreme Award for Structural Engineering Excellence. Both awards represent a fantastic achievement for the company which we hope to build on in the future."
Sarah Buck, President of IStructE, remarked: "The Structural Awards serve as the industry benchmark for structural engineering excellence. The 2008 Awards look set to be even more exciting than 2007, with more entries from around the world that demonstrate the innovation and creativity that epitomises structural engineering."
