Multis, who were established in 1994, employs 150 people and has generated an extra €200 million for technology multinationals HP and Sun Microsysrems.
The company provides their manufacturing customers with previously retired, returned and excess products that have been revamped and retuned. The Galway based firm comprised of ex-Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) workers has opened facilities in Ireland, Holland and the US and is growing in both size and reputation.

A recent article in the economist discussing companies contributing to the Celtic Tiger said: “One example is Multis in Galway, a ‘remanufacturer’ of computer parts for HP Compaq and Sun Microsystems. The country needs more firms of this sort if it is to stay ahead.”
Indeed, Multis’ CEO, Sean Keenan, accepted the Network Engines Award in August by latching onto the gaps arising from the development of new technologies, and the need to fill that gap with more originally configured systems, which are otherwise unavailable without Multis’ remanufacturing.
The company approached manufacturers for permission to access their licensing, allowing for fully branded remanufactured products that met the specifications for their customers.
