According to CSO figures released in the Production in Building and Construction Index, the value of production in the construction sector grew by 7.7% in 2006.
Peter Stafford of the CIF stated: “These figures from the CSO demonstrate the continued growth of the construction sector in Ireland and the vibrancy of the Industry. The CIF is confident in the future of the construction industry - and the continued expansion and diversity of the industry across all sectors demonstrates clearly the capacity of the Construction Industry to meet the needs of the economy.”

Mr. Stafford continued: “While a lot of commentary has focused on residential construction and the decrease in output in this area, the volume of production in the non-residential building sector has increased by 17.2% between the fourth quarter of 2005 and 2006. Furthermore the volume of production in civil engineering increased by 26.8% between the same period. These figures clearly demonstrate the continued growth of the industry and of its importance to the Irish economy.”
