Kainos Secures Three-Year Contract With NHS England

Belfast IT firm, Kainos, has begun a three-year contract with NHS England, potentially worth up to £37.4 million, while also starting work on its new headquarters on the Dublin Road in Belfast.

The software company Kainos has secured another significant deal, just five months after starting a £70 million contract with The Open University to support the development and deployment of online services over an initial four-year period with an option for a one-year extension.

This latest contract, worth £37 million, sees Kainos working with the NHS to aid the digital transformation of urgent and emergency care (UEC), focusing on NHS Pathways triage software for 111 and some 999 services, as well as the directory of services and UEC data, with potential expansion into additional UEC areas and products.

In June, Kainos was included in a list of 34 suppliers to provide cloud solutions to the NHS, with the total work package valued up to £500m. The London-listed software group was also listed in similar supplier lists for 'digital health advisory' support to the NHS in May 2024.

In the current financial year, Kainos has also secured a notable public sector contract, including a £9.4 million tender with the Department for Health and Social Care to develop and test the digitisation of the NHS health check project.

The Belfast company was also awarded a £16m contract with the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) for the digital delivery of the MOT. Kainos reported a pre-tax profit of £76.6m in the year to March 2023, a 14 per cent increase on the previous financial year.

Kainos is due to hold its next annual general meeting at the end of September.
