Translink announced that construction of the new Belfast Grand Central Station is nearing completion, soon allowing the public to view Ireland's largest state-of-the-art transport hub.
Farrans and JV partner Sacyr, in collaboration with Translink, are leading the main works on the NI Executive Flagship Belfast Grand Central Station project. Starting next month, services will be phased in, with buses currently operating from the Europa Bus centre moving over first on Sunday 8 September, followed by rail services at a later date. Public realm work around the station will continue into 2025.
This new station is set to revolutionise public transport, enhancing both local and international connectivity. It aims to encourage more sustainable travel, contributing to a better-connected, cleaner and healthier Northern Ireland.
Over the coming weeks there will be a number of changes. These are being carefully planned:
• To facilitate completion of all the essential commissioning and testing;
• To allow services to bed in;
• To give the public time to get familiar with the new station
• To facilitate the ongoing public realm works.
Passengers and parents of schoolchildren are urged to plan ahead, pre-purchase tickets and allow extra travel time, especially when passing through the Belfast area.
The station construction is due to be completed in Q4 2024, ready for operational opening, with full project completion, including all public realm upgrades, following in Q3 2025.
