Biodiversity is the variety of life on earth, including plants, animals, bugs, bacteria, habitats and humans. It is important to ensure that biodiversity is preserved so that all life on earth can work effectively and in balance.
Phoenix takes great pride in having 'Environmental Responsibility' as one of the four key pillars of its Corporate Responsibility programme. The company is committed to actively pursuing environmental improvements and collaborating with industry partners to advance the integration of renewable gas into its network.

Receiving the award on behalf of Phoenix Energy, Kailash Chada, Chief Executive Officer, stated: "We are delighted to be receiving the Silver Level in the Business & Biodiversity Charter. Phoenix Energy places a huge importance on Environmental Responsibility, not least through the carbon savings that consumers can make by switching from oil to natural gas. As an industry we are fully engaged in developing the renewable gas solutions which will undoubtedly play a key role in the delivery of net-zero targets for home heating. Additionally, we work with a number of partners such as Sport Changes Life, and the Conservation Volunteers to deliver carbon literacy sessions to young people across our licensed area, which is so important as they will be the generation that shapes the future in this space."
Adrian McNeilly, Health Safety and Environment Manager at Phoenix Energy added: "We recognised that there were changes we could make immediately to better the environment around us, and we have been implementing these changes over the past number of years. From planting 8,000 trees every year with our partner The Conservation Volunteers, to improving the space around our own building with the introduction of a meadow area and bug hotels, we are taking strides to improve biodiversity in our area."
Presenting the award, Kieran Harding, Chief Executive Officer, Business in the Community NI said: "Enhancing biodiversity is fundamental for ensuring a sustainable future for all and ensuring long-term business survival. Many businesses and their suppliers rely on stable, healthy ecosystems for their production processes and to treat and dissipate waste, so it is imperative that companies take action to ensure our natural environment is protected."
