NI Water Volunteers With The RSPB

NI Water's North Foreshore One Team, currently designing upgrades for Whitehouse, Carrickfergus and Greenisland WwTWs, recently volunteered with the RSPB.

Colleagues from NI Water, Stantec, GRAHAM, MWH Treatment and RPS started the day with a visit to the RSPB's 'Window to Wildlife', home to birds and wildlife from around the world.

The team first removed the invasive ragwort weed, then turned their attention to the Whitehouse Lagoon next to the Whitehouse WwTW. During a successful beach clean-up, they cleared litter and waste from the shoreline. The Whitehouse Lagoon is a popular feeding ground for various bird species, including Great Crested Grebes, Oystercatchers and Black-tailed Godwits.


Bob McGarvey, NI Water Senior Project Manager for the North Foreshore WwTW said: "It was great to be able to help and support the RSPB and to learn more about the important work that the charity carries out across NI. The team got a real buzz from the volunteering, and seeing the positive impact of their efforts made the day even more worthwhile. We look forward to continuing to support the work of the RSPB - one of our chosen charities - as we move forward with the North Foreshore project as part of the Living With Water in Belfast Programme."
