A £400,000 carriageway resurfacing project on C278 Loughinisland Road, Loughinisland is to commence on Monday 22 July 2024.
The resurfacing scheme will extend to 1.0 kilometre along the Loughinisland Road from the Buckhead Road junction to the Drumgooland Road junction.
Infrastructure Minister John O'Dowd said: "This is a substantial investment for the Loughinisland area which will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users. The investment demonstrates my commitment to investing in and improving our rural road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. This work will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of this section of the road network to the benefit of local residents, businesses and those travelling in the Loughinisland area. Work is expected to be substantially completed by Friday 6 September 2024. I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out."
To facilitate the safe delivery of the scheme it will be necessary to implement weekday road closures from 8am to 5pm, from Monday 22 July to Friday 23 August 2024 and from 9.30 am to 4.30pm from Monday 26 August to Friday 6 September 2024. The road will be open to traffic overnight and at the weekends.
An alternative route will be signed with traffic being diverted via the following route: C278 Loughinisland Road, B2 Annacloy Road, B2 Downpatrick Road, A24 Drumaness Road, A24 Newcastle Road, 0116 Old Park Road and C278 Newcastle Road.
The works are expected to be substantially complete by Friday 6 September 2024.
