Plans Announced To Conduct Additional Feasibility Study

Construction News Image
Cork County Council and Waterford City & County Council, in collaboration with Transport Infrastructure Ireland, have announced plans to conduct an additional feasibility study for the Dungarvan to Mallow Greenway.

Before moving forward and finalising this process, a decision has been made to re-evaluate the viable options between Dungarvan and Mallow. The project team will use the summer months to review the strategic plan, ensuring it is positioned for successful progression through future planning stages and eventual delivery. This feasibility review will also ensure alignment with current national policies.

Alongside creating a tourism experience that increases regional economic development, this highly anticipated green infrastructure has the capacity to establish connections between communities and essential hubs for work, education and leisure. Using historic infrastructure and existing built heritage to link residents with local population centres, sports facilities and schools is a central goal of this green initiative.

Given the further development of national policy in relation to providing safe and segregated sustainable transport options, the project team will review the study area to ensure that the objectives of connecting local communities to key services and enabling a modal shift are fully utilised on the project.

After completing the feasibility study and pending ongoing funding availability, the project is expected to move forward with design and environmental evaluation before pursuing planning approval. This approach aligns with updated guidelines from Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), and with their backing, Cork County Council and Waterford City & County Council are dedicated to advancing this essential green infrastructure project.
