Construction News Image
NI construction firm, Farrans, has completed the final turbine base pour at Enoch Hill Wind Farm in Scotland for client RWE.

The 15 turbine bases consist of 13 N133s and 2 N117s from supplier Nordex. Each N133 base contains 65 tons of steel reinforcement and 409 m³ of concrete, while each N117 base includes 54 tons of steel reinforcement and 327 m³ of concrete. Each concrete pour began at 6 am and concluded at 6 pm.

The turbine deliveries are due to commence in the summer. In advance of that milestone, all access tracks have now been completed and the control building is in the process of being fitted out.

Enoch Hill id located in East Ayrshire, close to the village of New Cumnock. Once operational, it will have the capacity to generate up to 70MW of electricity, providing power for approximately 68,000 average UK households.

Mark Cunnane, Project Manager at Farrans, said: "It has taken a true team effort from everyone on site to safely complete the concrete base pours at Enoch Hill and I would like to thank my colleagues, our client, supply chain and local community for their support in achieving it.

"We are now one step closer to connecting to the grid and contributing towards green energy targets in Scotland. With access roads in place and final preparations being made to the Control Building, plans are already underway to commence the complex operation of bringing the turbines to site in the coming months."
