Uisce Éireann To Replace Watermains In South Quays

Construction News Image
Uisce Éireann in partnership with Cork City Council is set to replace old cast iron watermains with modern pipes on the South Quays to address leakage and discolouration reports whilst supporting economic growth.

From 11pm on Wednesday 12 June to 4am on Thursday 13 June there is a potential water outage expected to facilitate ongoing essential watermains replacement works as part of the Cork City South Quays project.

Jack Cronin, Programme Manager Uisce Éireann, said: "Every effort will be made to limit the impact of these essential works and we would like to thank the community in advance for their patience and co-operation."

Residents and establishments along Blackrock Road, Old Blackrock Road, Boreenmanna Road, Quaker Road, Windmill Road, Ballinlough, Curragh Road, Turners Cross, Douglas Street, Capwell Road, Summerhill South, Southern Road, Infirmary Road, Langford Row, High Street, Victoria Road, Victoria Avenue, and neighboring vicinities might encounter reduced water pressure, temporary discoloration of water, or occasional interruptions in water supply. This situation could affect approximately 7,000 customers.

After any substantial maintenance on the water system, it's common to observe a rise in reports of sediment getting dislodged from the aging cast iron pipes, leading to temporarily discoloured water at customers' taps. If you notice discoloured tap water, running the tap for about 20 minutes typically clears it up. Once the water runs clear, it's safe to drink.
