Uisce Éireann’s is to start work in Carnatreantagh, Donegal, to provide a more reliable water supply to the community and reduce high levels of leakage.
The company has prioritised more than 2km of water mains for replacement which will ensure a reduction in disruption from bursts and supply interruptions for customers.
The section of works will take place along a section of the Trentagh Road L-1522-1/2. This significant project for the people of Carnatreantagh will also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers’ property boundaries and connecting it to the customers’ water supply. These works are being carried out as part of Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme.
Programme Manager for Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme, Patricia Lowry, is thrilled for this important project to begin.
"This essential work is part of a significant investment by Uisce Éireann to improve the water network across the country, prioritising investment where it is needed most enabling these communities to thrive.”"
To deliver the works safely and efficiently, a road closure will be in place along a section of the L-1522-1/2 until October. Diversion routes will be in place and the community can be assured that local and emergency access will be maintained at all times.
Patricia continued: "We understand that this type of work is inconvenient, and our crews are making make every effort to minimise disruption to the local community. These works are vital to ensure Carnatreantagh’s security of supply now and into the future, with the long-term benefits far outweighing any short-term inconvenience. We thank the community for their patience and co-operation as these essential works progress."
Farrans Construction is carrying out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann which are expected to be completed by late Autumn 2024.
