Kildare County Council has held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the official opening of the new Community Centre in Kilcock.

The County of Kildare's Cathaoirleach, Cllr Darragh Fitzpatrick, was accompanied by Sonya Kavanagh, Chief Executive of Kildare County Council, Marian Higgins, Director of Services for Community, Climate, Environment, and Water, along with local TDs and community members to mark this significant occasion.

The opening of the centre is a big step for Kildare County Council in building community spirit. The new centre aims to be a central place for locals, sports clubs, schools and community groups. It features a hall, two multipurpose rooms and a projector room.

Alongside the new Community Centre, plans include the installation of a new playground, sensory garden and taste garden within the surrounding open space in the months ahead.

Opening the centre on Friday 10 May, Cathaoirleach of the County of Kildare, Councillor Daragh Fitzpatrick said: "Today is a very special occasion, a day when we celebrate, not only the creation of a valuable new facility for all of the residents of this area, but the strong community spirit and commitment which drove this inspiring project to its successful delivery. Community centres play a vital role in our communities and serve as the hub of local life. Whether you seek a space for recreation, education, cultural enrichment or simply connecting with your neighbours, your community centres stand as welcoming pillars, fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment within their respective communities. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the elected members and staff of Kildare County Council who have been involved in the development of this special project."

As we open the doors, we can look forward to the positive impact it will have on the local area.
