McLaughlin & Harvey Scoops 10 CCS Awards

Ten of McLaughlin & Harvey's sites has received recognition with Bronze, Silver and Gold accolades from the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) at the 2024 award ceremonies held in Edinburgh and London.

Rewarding the UK's most considerate sites since 1998, the winners were presented with awards which are dependent on their performance against the Code of Considerate Practice, within similar project value bandings to ensure fairness.

In the Gold category, The James Hutton Institute and The Usher Building won the award. Our efforts at The James Hutton Institute are directed towards the construction of a new International Barley Hub and Advance Plant Growth Centre near Dundee. The company's dedication to excellence was recognised with a Gold National Site Award in 2023, highlighting the exceptional standards maintained throughout the project.

The project team demonstrated exceptional commitment to best practices by implementing 4 CCS-approved strategies to take standards further. They used an innovative Lone Worker App for real-time protection of isolated workers. The team also prioritised environmental responsibility with a vape recycling initiative. Finally, in terms of innovation, their 'Be Your Best' employability programme supported female prisoners at Scotland's first female-focused community custody unit. They also introduced pre-insulated ducts on-site to reduce environmental impacts.

The University of Edinburgh's Usher Building project included building a teaching centre within a life sciences park situated on a greenfield site. Throughout the construction process, McLaughlin and Harvey showcased an outstanding dedication to attaining the utmost standards of excellence.

The site team has consistently demonstrated innovation and commitment to innovation and best practices. They introduced a notable CCS-approved innovation with their 'Pads for Dads' campaign, providing free period products and information, and introduced best practice Neurodiversity Training to enhance support for diverse individuals.

In the Silver category, the projects at Heart of the City, Northcote Road, RAF Lossiemouth, UKAEA Oxfordshire Advanced Skills and UKAEA Office Building were successful. Also in the Bronze category, Farnborough Airport, Hawick Flood Protection Scheme and Meols Cops Retail Park received awards.
