This phase includes the construction of a new UK Border Force immigration facility and international baggage reclaim hall, as well as expanded retail and international departure lounge facilities.
Phase 2 aims to expand the central search and check-in zones, along with increasing the size of duty-free, retail, and arrivals sections. Construction is projected to finish by 2026.
The £100 million development which is privately funded and known as LBA:REGEN, will transform LBA's existing terminal building into a modern, efficient and sustainable facility, improving passenger experience and supporting the region's economic growth.
LBA:REGEN will build a 9,500 sq. mt., three-storey extension onto the existing terminal, alongside a refurbishing the current facilities. There will also be additional aircraft stands, more seating, faster security, new shops and eateries, a larger baggage reclaim area and immigration hall, and improved access for passengers with restricted mobility.

By 2030, LBA:REGEN could generate 1,500 fresh direct employment opportunities at LBA and an additional 4,000 indirect jobs, while injecting a total of £940 million into the local economy. These positions will include various roles, ranging from entry-level apprenticeships to customer experience officers, duty managers, air traffic engineers and data analysts.
The initiative will also play a role in advancing the airport's Net Zero Carbon Roadmap by implementing state-of-the-art heating, lighting, and machinery systems. Additionally, it will entice airlines to operate their latest, quietest and most fuel-efficient aircraft at the airport.
To celebrate the start of construction, a ground breaking ceremony was held which involved Leeds Bradford Airport CEO Vincent Hodder was joined by Darren McIvor, Project Manager for Farrans Construction, Charles Johnson, Head of Planning Development at LBA and current LBA apprentices Helen Rhodes and Rio Master.
