NI Water To Install Stormwater Sewer In Omagh

Construction News Image
NI Water has announced that works are set to begin later this month to install a new stormwater sewer on the Hospital Road in Omagh which will serve a development site of 139 dwellings.

The works which will commence on the week beginning 22 April will involve the installation of 385 metres of pipe and the construction of associated manholes between the new development (adjacent to 17 Hospital Road) and Campsie Road, where a connection will be made to the existing network just beyond the roundabout.

NI Water Project Manager, Mark Henderson said:

"This new pipeline is required to support a sizeable new housing development in Omagh.

"Pipelaying works will start at the roundabout on Campsie Road during the week commencing 22nd April and progress across the roundabout to Hospital Road. In a bid to minimise disruption to road users, including school traffic, the section at the roundabout will be carried out between the hours of 7pm and 6am under a lane closure. It is anticipated that this night work will be ongoing for approximately 2 weeks.

"Following the work at the roundabout, pipelaying will move onto Hospital Road and proceed towards the housing development. This section will be undertaken outside of peak traffic hours, between 9:30am and 4:30pm. A lane closure with two-way traffic lights will be in place to maintain traffic flow. The Hospital Road section is expected to take around 10 weeks to complete.

"Both Campsie Road and Hospital Road will remain open to residents and businesses at all times and our contractor will liaise with any affected properties along the pipeline route regarding issues such as access and deliveries. A letter drop has been completed in the area and signage erected to inform the wider public.

"NI Water and our project team from CivCo and AtkinsRéalis take this opportunity to thank the local community in advance for their patience and cooperation while we undertake this essential work to support housing development in the Omagh area. Our contractor will strive to keep disruption to a minimum and complete the work in the shortest possible timeframe."
