Veolia Water has commenced works on the long-awaited upgrade of Ballyjamesduff Wastewater Treatment Plant.
In Ballyjamesduff, construction has commenced to improve the current treatment facility, guaranteeing wastewater treatment meets stringent environmental standards. This modernisation initiative involves improving both the wastewater treatment facility and the existing storm tanks, as well as building a new administrative structure. Designed to cater to a population equivalent of 5,200, the upgraded plant will ensure all wastewater receives treatment in accordance with EU directives and EPA licensing mandates.
The €25 million investment promises numerous advantages for the community of Ballyjamesduff, such as upgraded water quality, heightened amenity value, and adherence to environmental regulations. Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Cavan County Council appointed Veolia Water to the project which will set the stage for a cleaner, more sustainable future and enables growth for the local economy.
Uisce Éireann’s Portfolio Manager, Patrick Greene said the works will bring "real advantages to Ballyjamesduff and the environment, which will undoubtedly foster future community growth". He added: "This project represents a substantial investment which will boost the area by enhancing the local environment, improving water quality and ensuring that wastewater is treated appropriately to meet regulatory standards.
"Ballyjamesduff Wastewater Treatment Plant is a crucial piece of infrastructure for Cavan and once the upgrade works have been completed, we will be able to ensure that we can accommodate future growth and protect the environment, in a more efficient way. The project reflects Uisce Éireann’s commitment to the efficient delivery of critical infrastructure in order to support local communities across Cavan.
"I want to take this opportunity to thank the community of Ballyjamesduff for their ongoing support and patience throughout the delivery of this vital wastewater upgrade for the community."
The project is due to be completed in 2027.
