E Quinn Civils Ltd To Create New Play Facilities In Carnlough And Glynn

Construction News Image
E Quinn Civils Ltd has been appointed to refurbish Carnlough's Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) and to develop a kickaround area in Glynn.

Carnlough MUGA will receive a new 3G carpet, associated shockpad and boundary fencing, which will include ball-stop fencing behind the goal units. The existing flood lights and surrounding bitmac footpaths will be retained.

The creation of a new kickaround space in Glynn involves establishing a 36m x 27m MUGA (Multi-Use Games Area) with a polymeric surface. This facility will be situated within the existing grass pitch area.

Flood lighting, ball-stop fencing and bitmac surfaced access pathways will be installed.

The £432,000 investment is a portion of the £2.4 million funding package provided by the Department for Communities (DfC) and the Department for Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) under the COVID Recovery Small Settlements Regeneration Programme. Additionally, Mid and East Antrim Borough Council has contributed funding to the project.

Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Alderman Gerardine Mulvenna, said:

"It's fantastic news that Council are delivering these excellent facilities for use by our community – they are sure to be a vital asset for our residents in and around Carnlough and Glynn.

"The new facilities will benefit lots of people and we really hope they will encourage more young people to participate in activities. Sport - and providing children with the opportunity to play - has a positive impact on health, education and community cohesion.

"I am delighted these wonderful areas will benefit from this significant funding and these new and upgraded additions to their local area."

Teresa O'Neill, DAERA Director of Rural Affairs said: "I look forward to the construction phase of these projects at Glynn and Carnlough progressing over the coming months. When complete, they will regenerate these underused spaces in line with our shared goals to attract footfall and create thriving centres, through improved amenities for residents and the wider community."

The project is planned to be completed in mid-May 2024.
