Kildare Council Opens Community Climate Action Programme

Kildare County Council has opened applications for the Community Climate Action Programme Fund (CCAP).

The CCAP is a new grant programme that supports small and large, rural and urban communities to take climate action at a local level. It aims to support and empower communities, in shaping and building low carbon, sustainable communities that will contribute to national climate and energy targets.

Kildare County Council has partnered with the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications (DECC) to provide funding to local, not-for-profit community groups for projects that promote addressing climate change.


Strand One of the CCAP will provide funding to community organisations across Kildare to deliver a local climate action project or initiative. Eligible community organisations can apply for funding across three levels. The grant will provide funding for small-scale projects costed at less than €20,000, medium-scale projects costed at between €21,000 to €50,000 and large-scale projects costed at between €51,000 to €100,000.

Strand 1a offers the opportunity for communities and local authorities to collaborate on a cross-border project alongside a Northern Ireland community. This opportunity is available for all communities to apply.

Proposed projects should address one or more of the following five themes: community energy, travel, food and waste, shopping and recycling, and local climate and environmental action.
