Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council has announced that it secured the top sport in household recycling efforts becoming champions of environmental responsibility.
In a recent municipal waste management report released by the Department for Agriculture, Environment, and Rural Affairs it was revealed that the Council achieved an
outstanding 60.3 per cent recycling rate for the 2022/23 period, surpassing all other local councils.
Lynsey Daly, Head of Waste Strategy and Sustainability at Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council said: "This remarkable achievement is a direct result of the extraordinary efforts of each resident in our community. We extend our deepest gratitude to every individual who contributed to this success by choosing sustainable practices."
Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough, Councillor Mark Cooper, stated:
"I commend our residents for their exceptional dedication. With a household recycling rate of 60.3%, the highest among all local councils, our community has demonstrated that responsible waste management is not just a goal but a tangible achievement. Thank you for actively choosing to recycle, compost, and reuse more, steering away from the conventional path of landfilling and mere disposal.
"This accomplishment reflects the collective spirit and determination of our residents. The commendable efforts in choosing to recycle, compost, and reuse over throwing away have made a significant impact.
