Kildare And Kilkenny Councils Renew Climate Action Partnership

Kildare and Kilkenny County Council's have renewed their partnership agreement to lead the Eastern and Midlands Climate Action Regional Office (CARO) for the next six years.

Kildare County Council coordinates the delivery of climate action across 17 Local Authorities including the border, midlands, mid-east and south-east counties of the country.

The partnership will help local authorities to deliver climate policies and behavioural change within their own organisations whilst empowering citizens and businesses to better understand the impacts of climate change and embrace the need for climate action.


Established in 2018, the Eastern and Midlands CARO is one of four offices that support local government to respond and adapt to climate change. They coordinate national and local climate policy and work to ensure a more joined-up approach to responding to the climate crisis at a regional level.

Chief Executive of Kildare County Council, Sonya Kavanagh said: "Over the previous five years, the partnership has been instrumental in helping local authorities in the region to respond to climate challenges, particularly on adaptation, and the Eastern and Midlands CARO has become a really valued resource for the local authorities within the region. We look forward to working closely with Kilkenny County Council to further progress support for climate action within the sector."
