UK Government Urged To 'Cut The Cost Of Fuel'

Sinn Féin has called on the UK government to "act now to cut the cost of fuel" as homeowners struggle to pay high energy bills.

The party's East L'Derry MLA, Caoimhe Archibald said the "rip-off prices" are only "adding to the huge financial pressure" workers and families are currently facing.


The comments were made after latest figures from The Consumer Council revealed that fuel prices are climbing again across the north.

In a statement, Caoimhe Archibald said: "Since mid-June, fuel prices have continuously increased and in the last week alone, people are paying an eye-watering average of almost £400 for 500 litres of home heating oil.

"The British government can and should to help support people who are facing the cruel decision whether to heat their homes or feed their children, rather than lining the pockets of energy giants who are doing very well from this crisis."
