NI concrete manufacturer and supplier FP McCann has been appointed to deliver the Strabane North Greenway project in County Tyrone.
The project will provide approximately 1.4 kilometres of new greenway along the former Great Northern Railway line. This will improve the off-road connectivity for non-motorised users between Strabane and Ballymagorry.
Works are set to begin in September, which will see the removal of site vegetation and construction of a three metre wide path with ducting and drainage.
The Interreg VA programe administered by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB), and Derry City and Strabane District Council has funded the project.
Sandra Duffy, Derry City and Strabane District Council's Mayor welcome the appointment and said: "It is great news that Council has successfully appointed a contractor to deliver this project, which will provide enhanced off-road connectivity between Strabane and Ballymagorry. Increasing opportunities for active travel forms a key part of our Inclusive Strategic Growth and Green Infrastructure Plans".
Gina McIntyre, Chief Executive of the SEUPB stated: "We are delighted to see work getting underway on this cross-border greenway in the Northwest, which has been funded through INTERREG VA. This exciting project will see the creation of a 46.5km greenway which will enhance accessibility between schools, businesses, parks and residential areas, and make cycling and walking more attractive commuting options for everyone."
